SISTER KATHRYN FITZ-GERALD 1914 – 2014

Sister Kathryn Fitz-Gerald, formerly Mother Barbara, died peacefully at Andrus on Hudson on July 15, 2014. She was 100 years old.

Kathryn entered the Ursulines on Feb. 25, 1933, and she made her final vows on August 26, 1938. She was a member of the community of St. Teresa before moving to Andrus. Her graciousness and good humor were characteristic of her over a long lifetime.

Kathryn taught at The Ursuline School elementary level from 1935 to 1940, then taught in the secondary school at The Ursuline School from 1941 to 1974. She did volunteer teaching at Blessed Sacrament School from 1972-1974. She was a travel consultant from 1977 through 1994, at Windows on the World, Travel Help, and Casti Travel. She retired in 1994.

She held a bachelor’s degree in French from the College of New Rochelle, a Master’s in French from Fordham University, a certificate in theology from Providence College, and a certificate in Oral French from the Institut Catholique in Paris.

Kathryn was born on Feb. 25, 1914 in Danbury CT, to Blanche Bresson and Walter Fitz-Gerald. She is predeceased by a brother, Walter, and a sister, Marienne. She is survived by 3 nephews and 1 niece. Wake will be held on Sunday, July 20 at 2 P.M., at the Province Center Chapel, 1338 North Avenue, New Rochelle, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Province Center chapel on Monday, July 21 at 10:30 A.M. at the Province Chapel. In place of flowers, gifts may be given to the Ursuline Retirement Fund, Ursuline Provincialate, 1338 North Avenue, New Rochelle, NY 10804.
