Obituary and Funeral Liturgy for Sr. Regina Kehoe, OSU

Sister Regina Kehoe, OSU, formerly Mother Thomas Regina, a beloved member of the Ursulines of the Roman Union Eastern Province USA for 73 years, died peacefully on February 24, 2024, at the United Hebrew Home in New Rochelle, NY.

Sr. Regina was born in New York City on January 30, 1929, the daughter of Thomas Kehoe and Mary Cuddihy. She professed vows in the Ursuline Community on January 16, 1951. Sr. Regina earned a bachelor’s degree in Biology from the College of New Rochelle and a master’s degree in educational administration at Villanova University. Thus began her sixty-year ministry in education as a teacher or principal in the Wilmington Ursuline Academy Junior School, the Academy of Mount St. Ursula, and the Ursuline School in New Rochelle. She also taught Gerontology at the College of New Rochelle. Sr. Regina’s extensive background in education led to her serving on the Board of Trustees for the College of New Rochelle, the Ursuline School, the Academy of Mount St. Ursula, and Fordham Preparatory School. In later years, she would return to work at the Ursuline School in several capacities, including Counseling, Alumnae Relations, and Development.

Following her educational ministry, she earned a master’s degree in human services/gerontology. She served the Ursuline Community as Superior of the Ursuline Marian Residence and as a board member of the Visiting Nurses of Westchester and the Edmund Rice Christian Brothers’ St. Joseph Residence.

Sr. Regina had a great love for the Archdiocese of New York and served it well as President of the Archdiocesan Council of Women Religious, training specialist in the Office of the Aging, and special events coordinator for the Office of Evangelization, notably the visit of Pope John Paul II to New York in 1979.

Sr. Regina will be remembered by her Ursuline Sisters for her leadership as Provincial, her love of St. Angela and her devotion to the Ursuline Community.

She is survived by her sister Ursula McMahon and her loving and caring Healy, McMahon, and Mercinck nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Thomas and sisters, Patricia Healy and Marie Mercinck.

Visitation for Sr. Regina will be on Thursday, February 29, between 3:30 and 7:00 pm, and prayer service will be held at 4:15 pm at the Ursuline Province Center, at 1338 North Avenue, New Rochelle, NY.

The funeral mass will be on Friday, March 1, at 10:30 am at the Holy Family Church, at 83 Clove Road, New Rochelle, NY 10804.
