Obituary and Funeral Liturgy for Sr. Dolores Yanshak, OSU
Sister Dolores Yanshak, OSU (a.k.a Mary Consilia), died peacefully on Saturday, April 13, at the Westchester Medical Center following a brief illness. She was born in Wilkes-Barre, PA, the daughter of Frances Rosell and Frank Yanshak, on July 2, 1930.
After completing a BA in Math at the College of New Rochelle, Dee went on to earn to earn a MA in Math at Fordham University. She also studied at Nijmegen and Venray in preparation for her life’s calling as a missionary to Indonesia. For almost forty years, she ministered to the Indonesian people, serving in various capacities. She trained local leaders in community development, served as national moderator of the international organization of Ursuline alumnae, and on a pastoral team in rural areas of Borneo and New Guinea.
Her work in Indonesia helped her prepare for the next phase of her life. While she assumed several positions when she returned to the States, she was passionate about caring for those who needed healing. She combined her love of the Indonesian culture with being a holistic massage therapist.
Dee was a kind and quiet model of service and could be called on at any time. Her joy was infectious, and she imparted that to those she helped.
Dee was the last of her immediate family.
