Obituary for Sr. Kathleen O’Connell, OSU

Sister Kathleen O’Connell, OSU, (Sister Nathanael), died peacefully December 13th at Andrus on Hudson, Hastings on Hudson, NY.  Sr. Kathleen, daughter of Charlotte and James O’Connell was born in Brooklyn, NY.  She was 91.

Kathleen entered the Ursuline Community in 1952 and after finishing her studies at Catholic University, she began what was to become a lifelong service to the people of God as a teacher, guidance counselor. When finished teaching, Kathleen began a second career in the world of finance.  She was an Administrative Assistant at Our Lady of Perpetual Help and finally, before she began to do Hospice ministry, she was a staff member at the Ursuline Center in Great Falls, Montana. Not ready yet to retire, Kathleen assumed many roles of assistance to the Community of St. Teresa in New Rochelle as well as other communities of the Ursulines. In addition to Montana, Kathleen ministered in Bethesda, MD, Wilmington, DE., Dedham, MA.

Kathleen had multiple talents and interests, not the least of which was traveling outdoor routes with her friends, Srs. Eleanor and Marcia. She is predeceased by her parents and brother, James. Surviving are several nieces and nephews.

A wake for Sr. Kathleen will be held at the Ursuline Province Center, 1338 North Ave. New Rochelle. NY on Friday, Dec. 17th from 3pm to 5 pm with a prayer service at 4pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be said on Saturday, Dec. 18th at 10am with burial following in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Valhalla. Donations in her memory may be sent to the Ursuline Sisters Retirement Fund at 133 North Avenue or online.
