Obituary and Funeral Liturgy of Sr. Mary Jo Lyons, OSU

Ursuline’s sister, Mary Jo Lyons, OSU (Martin Marie), died April 17th at Andrus on Hudson, Hastings on Hudson, NY. Born in NY, Sr. Mary Jo was the daughter of Mary and Daniel Lyons in 1935. She received her education in the Bronx, attending the Academy of Mt. St. Ursula and later the College of New Rochelle, Villanova University, and New York University. Mary Jo, the daughter of Irish parents, was interested in everything Irish, even studying the Gaelic language at Iona.

Sister loved learning and teaching. She taught for over 30 years in the following Schools: Blessed Sacrament, Our Lady of Mercy, St. Philip Neri, The Ursuline School, St. Joseph’s Middletown, Ursuline Academy, Wilmington, Delaware, where she was Principal of the Junior School.

After 30 years, Sr. Mary Jo changed her ministry focus from Education to Associate Director of the Bedford Park Multi-Service Center and Associate Chaplain at St. Cabrini Nursing Home.

Sister is predeceased by her parents, Mary and Daniel, as well as her brother,
Daniel.

Calling hours will be Monday, April 24th, between 9:45 and 10:45 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial. All services will be held at the Ursuline Province Center, 1338 North Ave, New Rochelle, NY. Internment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Valhalla, NY. Arrangements by Lloyd Maxcy and Sons funeral home.
