Feast of St. Ursula, October 21st

Today is the feast day of St. Ursula!

What is the meaning of St. Ursula today?

Assuming that you know the legend of St. Ursula these are some thoughts about how she is relevant today.

As a role model and courageous leader in the 5th century, St. Ursula stood up to her captors and was martyred in the name of God. Her legacy of goodness lives on in the women today who devote themselves to a life of service.

Women like the Ursuline Sister, Dorothy Kazel, who was killed in El Salvador in 1980 while she was dedicating her life to the poor reaffirms the importance and meaning of love and human connection and embodies the sacrifice of St. Ursula.

Women today can apply the ultimate sacrifices of these women who spanned centuries by challenging justices, by embracing love for others and by bringing about change and goodness, peacefully.

Do you have an Ursula in your life? Wish her a Happy Feast Day!

The poem in the image is by one of our Ursuline Sisters of the Eastern Province, USA Sister Mary Dowd (1928-2018).

This is a lovely photo of the late Sr. Dorothy Kazel carrying out her life’s work: //unitedchurchofjaffrey.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/Sister-Dorothy-Kazel.jpg
