JUBILEE OF RELIGIOUS PROFESSION

Each year brings the celebration of the jubilee of Ursulines on the anniversary of their religious profession, for their faithfulness in dedication to God and in fulfilling the work of service to others entrusted to them by the church. They are honored on the day they made vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience in the Eastern Province of Ursulines of the Roman Union.

The following are Ursulines celebrating their Jubilees in 2012:

75 Years

Sr. Monica Ste. Marie
Professed on February 6, 1937

Sister Monica Ste. Marie celebrated 75 years of religious profession on February 6, 2012. Her lifetime ministry was primarily teaching. She taught at parochial schools in the Bronx; Middletown, NY; Washington, DC; and Overlea, MD; Ursuline Academy Wilmington, DE, and St. Joseph’s Academy in Malone, NY. Later, she did prison ministry for 2 years. She retired in 2002 and resides at Andrus.

70 Years

Sr. Adelaide Thomason
Professed on January 16, 1942

Sister Adelaide Thomason, a former member of the philosophy faculty at the College of New Rochelle, celebrated 70 years of religious profession on January 16, 2012 at Andrus. She began teaching at Ursuline Academy in Dallas, Texas.

Sr. Teresa Weed (Mary Louis)
Professed on January 22, 1942

Sister Teresa Weed, formerly Sister Mary Louis, celebrated 70 years of religious profession on January 22, 2012. She taught at Blessed Sacrament School and The Ursuline School, both in New Rochelle. Since 1991she has been an assistant teacher at The Children’s Center for Learning Headstart.

60 Years

Sr. Anne Bunting (De Chantal)
Professed on January 16, 1952

Sister Anne Bunting, formerly Sister Marie de Chantal, celebrated her 60th anniversary of religious profession on January 16, 2012 with her community, St. Teresa’s in New Rochelle. She was a member of the history faculty at the College of New Rochelle. She began teaching at Blessed Sacrament School in New Rochelle. For 9 years, she was a representative to the United Nations for the International Catholic Child Bureau.

Sr. Imelda Dahill
Professed on January 16, 1952

Sister Imelda Dahill celebrated her 60th anniversary of religious profession on January 16, 2012. She has served as educator or in leadership positions in Mexico.

Sr. Maria Rosa Deiso
Professed on January 16, 1952

Sister Maria Rosa Deiso celebrated her 60th anniversary of profession on January 16, 2012 with her community of Bedford Park in New Rochelle. She taught at the Ursuline Academy in Boston, at St. Jerome’s School and St. Angela Merici School in the Bronx. Most of her teaching years were at the Academy of Mount St. Ursula.

Sr. Mary Dowd (Mary of the Incarnation)
Professed on July 16, 1952

Sister Mary Dowd, formerly Sister Mary of the Incarnation, will celebrate her 60th anniversary of profession on July 16, 2012, with her community of St. Teresa’s in New Rochelle. Her ministry began as a teacher at the Ursuline Academy in Wilmington. She also taught at the College of New Rochelle and Ursuline Academy in Bethesda, MD. Mary served in catechumen work at St. Matthias, St. Lucy, and Our Lady of Lourdes. She became co-director of the Maura Clarke-Ita Ford Center in Brooklyn that provides educational services for adult women. At present she is assistant coordinator of the province Office for Justice, Peace, and the Integrity of Creation.

Sr. Phyllis Hinchcliffe (St. Paul)
Professed on July 16, 1952

Sr. Phyllis Hinchcliffe, formerly Sister St. Paul, will celebrate her 60th anniversary of profession with her community of St. Teresa’s on July 16, 2012. She began teaching at Blessed Sacrament School in New Rochelle. Her ministry of many years was as a member of the Department of Religious Studies at the College of New Rochelle. Later, she was part of a retreat team at the Passionist Retreat Center. At present she is librarian for the St. Teresa’s community.

50 Years

Sr. Jacqueline Da Silva
Professed on January 7, 1962

Sister Jacqueline Da Silva, celebrated her 50th anniversary of profession on January 7, 2012. She serves in Caracas, Venezuela, where she is principal of Academia Merici. Before that she had taught in Georgetown, Guyana. Jackie taught at the Academy of Mount St. Ursula and was a Residence Director at the College of New Rochelle. In 1984 she taught at Blessed Sacrament School in Washington, DC and coordinated the Religious Education Program there, before leaving to serve in South America.

25 Years

Sr. Patricia Schifini
Professed on August 23, 1987

Sr. Patricia Schifini will celebrate her 25th year of religious profession on August 23, 2012. She taught at the Academy of Mount St. Ursula, after beginning her ministry teaching at Our Lady of Angels School. She joined the faculty at The Ursuline School, where she continues to teach religion, is campus minister, and coordinates peer ministry.
