Sr. Alice was born in Esmond, RI to Alice Bottomley and Joseph Bouchard in 1926. Her parents and her brothers, Edward and Joseph predeceased her.

Sr. Alice, formerly known as Mother Joseph Marie, entered the Ursuline novitiate shortly after graduating from the College of New Rochelle in 1947.  She went on to earn an M.A. in Romance Languages from Fordham University.

Answering the call to be a missionary, Sr. Alice went to Thailand in 1954 and served there for 22 years, teaching in both Chiengmai and Bangkok and working among the poor.  Sr. Alice was beloved by her students and many visited with her in New York.  After returning home, she again pursued her missionary call among the people of Appalachia. In 1978 she became the first official presence of the Catholic Church in Wayne Co, W.V She was the founder and director of the Genoa Christian Center, co-founder of the Genoa Crafts Cooperative, and board member and president of Genoa Community Services.

Returning to the New Rochelle area, Sr. Alice continued being an active volunteer especially at Hope Community Service and the Adult Learning Center, New Rochelle where she was named Volunteer of the Year.

Because of the COVID-19 crisis, there will not be a wake or funeral for Sr Alice. Burial will be private, and a Memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date.
