Sr. Mary Beth Read, OSU, a beloved member of the Ursulines of the Roman Union Eastern Province, USA, for 60 years, died peacefully on March 9 at Andrus on Hudson Nursing Home.

Sister MaryBeth was born in Philadelphia, PA, on January 8, 1946, the daughter of John Read and Mary Loughran. She graduated from Ursuline Academy, Wilmington, DE. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Catholic University of America and a master’s degree in Religious Education from Fordham University. She also received certification in Educational Administration from Fordham/Manhattan College. Her ministry in the South Bronx impelled her to participate in the New York Archdiocese Spanish language program, which offered her the opportunity to study in Puerto Rico.

She began her ministry in education at St. Jerome’s parochial school. She then served as a teacher and later as an administrator at the Academy of Mount St. Ursula in the Bronx, NY. Sr. Mary Beth also served in parish ministry, first at St. Jerome’s parish and then at St. John the Baptist parish in Yonkers, NY. She brought her deep faith and compassionate care to these ministries.

Sr. MaryBeth entered the Ursuline community in 1966 and served as a provincial councilor, served on several committees, and as a trustee of Ursuline Academy. She will be remembered by her Ursuline Sisters, family, and many friends for her kindness and gentle presence.

She is survived by her brothers, James and Robert, her sister-in-law, Roberta, her sister-in-law, Paula, and several loving, caring nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother John.

Visitation for Sr. MaryBeth is on Saturday, March 14, 9:15–10:15 am, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am, at the Ursuline Province Center, located at 1338 North Avenue, New Rochelle, NY. Burial following at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

Sr. Carole Marie Keaney,OSU, a beloved member of the Ursuline Community, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2025, at Andrus on Hudson. She was one of six children, born in 1932 to John and Mary Donnolly Keaney of Arlington, Massachusetts. After earning a BA in French from the College of New Rochelle and spending time in Holland to prepare for her ministry and learn the language, Sr. Carole Marie spent the next 30 years in Indonesia. Sr. Carole Marie taught high school Religion, English, and French in Bandung and Flores, and taught junior sisters English and other subjects. She also worked in rural community development and parish service in Cisantana and was on the staff of a Village Community Development Institute in Bandung, training local leaders from all over Indonesia.

After returning to the US, Sr. Carole Marie pursued her motivating interest in the environment and earned an MS in Environmental Studies from Antioch University in New Hampshire, which led to her role as Coordinator of Harmony Farm part of the Highbridge Community Life Center. In 2007, she attended the UN Conference on Environmental Change as a designated observer. In later years, she worked at an organic community farm and retreat center in Goshen, NY, and participated in “Nuns Build,” helping to restore New Orleans homes damaged by Hurricane Katrina.

Sr. Carole Marie is predeceased by her brothers, Francis, Hugh, Philip, Rev. James, Rev. John, and her sisters Ellen and Mary. She will be remembered by her nieces, who were attentive to her through the years. Her Ursuline Sisters will recall with a smile her joyful spirit, welcoming heart, love for Indonesia, and her care for the environment.

Services will be at the Ursuline Province Center, 1338 North Avenue, New Rochelle, New York. Viewing on Wednesday, December 16, 2025, 9:45 am – 10:45 am. Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 am. Sr. Joan McCarthy, a beloved member of the Ursuline Community formerly known as Mother Mary John died peacefully at Andrus on Hudson on October 29, 2025. She entered the Ursulines in 1947, having graduated from the College of New Rochelle. Sr. Joan taught at Blessed Sacrament School, New Rochelle, St. Jerome’s School and St. Philip Neri School in the Bronx, and at The Ursuline School, New Rochelle. Her later active years included parish ministry at St. John’s Beacon, NY, Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Pelham Manor, St. Joseph’s in Malone, NY, and seventeen years of service to the city of New Rochelle at the Hugh A. Doyle Senior Center. She had been in administration for the Ursulines as Superior, Provincial Councilor and Novice Director.

Sr. Joan was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1925, the third child of Mary McKenna McCarthy and Joseph Francis McCarthy. She is predeceased by her brothers Edmund, John, and Joseph, and her sister Mary Rogers, and is survived by her sister, Margaret Mary Ehler, and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at the Ursuline Province Center, 1338 North Avenue, New Rochelle, New York. Viewing on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, 9:15 AM – 10:15 AM. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 AM. Burial following at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

On Saturday, June 14, 2025, the Ursuline Sisters of the Eastern Province honored Sr. Jeannie
Humphries, OSU, on her 25th Jubilee. The day began with a celebratory service, followed by a
festive reception with friends, family, and other Sisters who gathered to mark this extraordinary milestone in Jeannie’s journey of faith and service.

Jeannie began her Ursuline ministry in 1999, and has brought her boundless energy, compassion, and commitment to the field of education. She holds a BA in Psychology/Education and an MS in Reading and Special Education from the College of New Rochelle, as well as a Ph.D. in Language and Literacy from Fordham University. She has taught in classrooms across New York, including St. Philip Neri in the Bronx, Flanders Elementary in Malone, St. Ignatius in Hunts Point, Concordia College, and Fordham University. Sr. Jeannie is past principal of the Academy of Mount St. Ursula.

Today, Sr. Jeannie continues to embody the spirit of Saint Angela Merici in her role as Principal
of the John Cardinal O’Connor School in Irvington, NY, leading a Catholic K–8 community
serving children with learning differences. Reflecting her ongoing commitment to the future
of religious life, she has been an active member of Giving Voice and is currently involved with the Leadership Collaborative.

Sr. Jeannie is a passionate soul who inspires all around her. We are proud to count her
among our own and give thanks for her 25 years of joyful service.

Sr. Ann (Annie) Ruth Dumas, a member of the Ursuline Community, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2025, at Calvary Hospital, Bronx, NY, after living courageously with cancer for many years.

Ann was born April 11, 1948, in Malone, NY, to parents Ruth and Kenneth Dumas, who predeceased her. She is survived by her siblings, Shirley, Gary, Donald, Thomas, Marie, Connie, Mary, and Pauline, along with their extended family and her Ursuline Sisters.

Sr. Ann is a graduate of NY State University, Plattsburg, NY. She taught for many years in Maryland, New York, and Vermont. In 2005, she entered the Ursulines. Her ministry included Serviam Academy, Wilmington, DE, interprovincial service in Georgetown, Guyana, and The Ursuline School, New Rochelle. Sr. Ann is lovingly remembered for her service as a chaplain for Ursuline’s girls’ basketball teams over the years. She also volunteered her services at The Food Bank of Delaware, the New Rochelle Public Library, and to her Ursuline Sisters in the 1338 Community.

Sr. Ann had donated her body to medical science. A Memorial Mass was held on Friday, May 30, at 10:30 am at the Ursuline Province Center Chapel, 1338 North Ave., New Rochelle. Burial will be in the family plot in Malone, NY, at a later date.
