Sr. Marie Albert Walsh, OSU Obituary

Sr.  Marie Albert Walsh, OSU (Claire Walsh), a beloved member of the Ursuline Community, died peacefully on April 3 at Andrus on Hudson. Born in Yonkers, NY to Mary and Albert Walsh, she is predeceased by her brother Albert and her sister Mary Roslyn.

A graduate of The College of New Rochelle, she received a Masters in English Literature from Fordham University. She was engaged in the ministry of education  at The Ursuline School, New Rochelle, St. Joseph’s  Academy, Malone, NY, Ursuline Academy, Wilmington, DE , Ursuline Academy, Grand Concourse, Bronx, NY.  She also served on the faculty and as Assistant Administrator at the Academia Merici in Caracas, Venezuela.

Sr. Marie Albert held leadership positions in the Ursuline community and was a member of Sisters’ Council in the Archdiocese of New York and Diocese of Wilmington.    She also served at the Ursuline Generalate in Rome.

Her energy and spirit continued to enrich the lives of those around her well into her later years.  The Ministry of Caring, a multi-service organization in Wilmington, where the neediest found a home was very dear to her.  She served as Administrative Assistant until she moved to Andrus and continued to do volunteer clerical work for this ministry.

Sister is survived by loving nieces and nephews and will be missed by her family, friends and the members of her Ursuline Community.

Wake will be held at the Ursuline Province Center in New Rochelle, on Sunday, April 8 from 2:00 to 5:30. The mass of Christian Burial will be offered at the Ursuline Province Center chapel on Monday, April 9 at 10:30. Burial will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the Ursuline Sisters Retirement Fund at the Ursuline Provincialate, 1338 North Avenue, New Rochelle, NY 10804
