Sr. Eleanor Maloney, OSU

Eleanor Maloney, OSU, a beloved member of the Ursuline Community, died peacefully on November 5, 2018 at Andrus on Hudson, Hastings, NY.
Sr. Eleanor was born in Binghamton, NY to Helen and James Maloney in 1926. She entered the Ursulines in 1948 as Sr. Immaculata, and graduated from the College of New Rochelle with a BA in History in 1952. She went on to earn an MA in Modern European History from Fordham University, and an MA in Catechetical Theology from Manhattan College. Sr. Eleanor received National Science Foundation grants to study Math, and she later studied Computer Science.
Sr. Eleanor’s ministry as an elementary and high school teacher, and CCD Coordinator, spanned 34 years: Blessed Sacrament, The Ursuline School, St. Gabriel’s in New Rochelle, NY, the Ursuline Academy in Dedham, Massachusetts, and the Ursuline Academy in Bethesda, Maryland. Sr. Eleanor later worked in the Registrar’s office at the College of Rochelle. She volunteered time teaching English as a second language through the Literacy Volunteers.
A wake will be held at the Ursuline Province Center, New Rochelle, NY, on Wednesday, November 7 3:00 – 5:00pm, with a prayer service at 4:00pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the province center Chapel on Thursday, November 8 at 10:30am. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
